Make a Difference with SOFD!
The Stanton Old Fashioned Days Festival Committee is getting off to a start with planning for the 2024 festival season on Monday, January 22 at 7:00 PM. This meeting will be at Stanton City Hall in the Community Room.
If you would like to help out with any of the following roles, big or small, please show up on Monday or send us a message and let us know you’d like to lend a hand this year!
Vendor Committee Members
A small crew is needed to help coordinate and manage various vendor areas leading up to and during the festival. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to making contact with vendors from the past and present to generate interest and increase registrations, planning and mapping out booth spaces, and facilitating/accommodating vendors when they arrive and settle into their designated areas.
Sponsorship Committee Members
A group of people is needed to help raise funding for the festival through the solicitation of festival sponsorships to local businesses and organizations. Our generous sponsors are the main source of revenue for our organization, so having a crew of members to help reach out and make personal contact with them is of high importance. We have a system in place that works well, but we just need a group of dedicated members to share the load.
Entertainment Committee Members
This would be a group of people committed to developing a plan for festival events and entertainment, such as carnivals or stage performances. They would be tasked with seeking bids, reporting back to the Board, and then coordinating with the attractions that are chosen to be included in our Master Plan.
Raffle Director
This person is needed to coordinate the big raffle and other smaller raffles such as 50/50s. They will confer with local businesses and create a list of confirmed prizes, fill out the paperwork for licensing and submit it to the State, have tickets printed, bundle and distribute them for presale and then collect them prior to festival, in addition to other raffle-related management throughout the festival.
Stage Show Director
A driven person or team is needed to take on the responsibilities of resurrecting a stage show. In the past this has been in the form of a talent or variety show, but this is an opportunity to think outside the box and create a vision for what this type of event will become to stay relevant in the next generation and bring increased participation. Helpful skills in the areas of organization, promotion, and management would help in this endeavor.
Kids Events Director
This person would be helpful in planning, organizing, and promoting events for our smaller attendees at SOFD. They would collaborate with various individuals, businesses, and organizations to put a plan in place for the timing, location, and other logistics for each event that is geared toward children.
Board Secretary
A good candidate for secretary would be able to attend monthly meetings and take detailed monthly minutes in order to keep a record of discussion and actions taken. They would prepare the standard agenda with any additional requests from committee members, under the direction of the Chairperson, and send out meeting reminders with these documents to the SOFD Committee. An ability (or willingness to learn) to use Google shared Drive storage and Google Docs for word processing, spreadsheets, etc. is desired since the secretary will serve as the keeper of the records, organizing most within the cloud as much as possible, making them accessible to committee members and leaving a minimal amount of paper documents to file/maintain.
Public Safety Coordinator
This individual would serve as a liaison between the SOFD Committee and the Stanton Police Department to coordinate road closures and an emergency response plan for the festival.
General Membership
If you’re not quite ready to commit to any of the specific roles above, no worries, we still have a place for you. We are ALWAYS in need of supporting members to come to meetings and be a part of the planning and decision making processes and lend a hand wherever needed. Come join us!
Outside Organizations
Last but not least, we’re also open to partnering with other local organizations for mutual benefit. If you or an organization you are a part of has any ideas on how we might work together for the good of the community, we’d love to hear from you, as well.
I can help for sure, just need to know when meeting are!!
